Auto-reply to comments
Answering comments automatically — without sounding like a bot
“Are you open Saturday?” gets asked at 9:40 pm and answered at 9 am — by then the buying intent is elsewhere. The comment AI replies from your knowledge base, in the language of the question, and knows its limits: no prices, no invented answers, complaints go to you.

AI replies to your followers
The basics
Why comments matter — and why canned text fails
A comment is the cheapest sales consultation there is: someone is publicly interested in your offer. The only question is whether the answer arrives while the interest is still there.
The comment is half the sale
Anyone asking about opening hours, sizes or your service area is mentally already in the store. If the question sits until tomorrow, someone else answers it in the meantime — usually the competition.
Canned text is not an answer
Rule-based instant replies (“Thanks for your message!”) are recognised instantly — they answer nothing and feel like a closed office. A useful reply needs the content of the question and knowledge about your business.
Within Meta’s rules
Replying to comments on your own posts is expressly provided for by the official API. It has nothing to do with what endangers accounts — mass likes, follow bots, cold mass messages.
Where exactly the line runs between a permitted tool and a risky bot is shown in the diagram further down — in detail it’s covered in Automating Instagram: what’s allowed.

How it works
From question to answer in four steps
Once set up, comment handling runs alongside your day-to-day — with you as the final instance, if you want.
Fill the knowledge base
Opening hours, offers, service area, recurring questions — stored as free text. PostExpert additionally reads your website once.
Choose the mode
Draft mode: the AI writes, you review and send. Or direct mode: standard questions go out immediately. You can switch at any time.
The AI replies — in the question’s language
German, Italian or English: the reply comes in the language of the comment, written from your knowledge base. If the answer isn’t in there, nothing is invented.
Sensitive cases land with you
Complaints always go to a human for review, spam isn’t answered at all, price questions are referred to you. The limits are built in, not optional.
The comment AI is part of the whole system: posts are created, published — and the reactions to them are handled. How it works.
The knowledge basePro
Answers that come from your details — not from thin air
The AI only answers what it knows from your knowledge base: opening hours, offers, contact routes, typical questions. That’s the decisive property — it makes the answers useful and prevents the embarrassing ones.
- Knowledge base from free text plus a one-time website scan
- Never invents prices or availability — if it’s not in there, it refers onward
- Draft mode: the AI writes, you review and send
- On Pro up to -1 automatic replies per week, uncapped on Ultra
- Complaints always go to review, spam is never answered

The languages
Replies come in the language the question was asked in
Especially for businesses with a mixed audience — tourist regions, border areas, South Tyrol — this is the difference between an answer and a misstep: the AI detects the comment’s language and replies in it.
- Reply in the language of the comment — German, Italian, English
- The same knowledge in every language: one knowledge base, not three
- Tone follows your brand profile from the website scan
- Works per account — every account has its own knowledge base
- The posts themselves can be multilingual too, if your audience needs it

Honestly speaking
What the comment AI does not do — on purpose
Automatic replies are only as trustworthy as their limits. These are built in — you should know them before testing for 30 days.
Never quotes prices or makes promises
Price questions, availability, appointment requests: for those the AI refers to you or your website — even when an answer would be within reach. A wrong promise costs more than a late reply.
Never handles complaints alone
Critical comments always go to a human for review. An automatic apology phrase under a genuine complaint would be the worst of both worlds.
Spam is not answered
Giveaway bots and follower sellers get no reply — not even a polite one. Every reaction would only make the next spam more likely.
From Pro upwards, with a weekly cap
The comment AI is available from the Pro plan, with up to -1 automatic replies per week; uncapped only on Ultra. On Basic you still answer comments yourself.
Direct messages only on Ultra
The AI answers DMs only on the Ultra plan — within Meta’s 24-hour window and with the same limits. On Basic and Pro your DM inbox remains untouched.
No interaction automation
No automatic liking, following or commenting on other people’s posts. That’s the kind of automation that endangers accounts — PostExpert answers what comes to you, and nothing else.

Frequently asked
Questions about automatic comment replies
The scepticism is justified — here are the honest answers to it.
Is automatically answering comments allowed?
Yes. Replying to comments under your own posts is expressly provided for by Meta’s official API — and that’s exactly where PostExpert operates. What’s forbidden and dangerous is something else: automatic liking, following and commenting on other people’s posts. PostExpert stays away from that. In detail: [Automating Instagram: what’s allowed](blog/instagram-automatisieren-leitfaden).
Will people notice that an AI is answering?
With canned replies: instantly. That’s why the AI writes every reply freely — from the actual comment, your knowledge base and the tone of your brand profile. Whether the result sounds like you is best checked in draft mode: you review every reply before it goes out and get an honest picture before trusting the automation.
How does the AI know what to answer?
From two sources: the free text you store — opening hours, offers, service area, typical questions — and a one-time scan of your website. It knows nothing beyond that, and that’s deliberate: what isn’t in the knowledge base it doesn’t answer, it refers onward.
What happens with a complaint?
It lands with you for review — always, regardless of the mode. The AI never answers critical comments alone: an automatic phrase under a genuine complaint would do more damage than a late but personal reply.
Can the AI state prices or availability?
No, on principle — even if you write prices into the knowledge base. For price, stock and appointment questions it refers to your contact route or website. The reason is simple: a wrong promise in a public comment costs trust that no fast reply can buy back.
Which languages does the AI answer in?
In the language of the comment — German, Italian or English. You maintain the knowledge base only once; the AI writes the reply in the respective language. For businesses with a mixed audience, this is exactly where canned text finally fails.
How many comments does it answer per week?
On Pro up to -1 automatic replies per week — more than enough for most accounts. On Ultra the cap disappears. Anything beyond that stays visible and waits for you; nothing disappears.
Does it answer direct messages too?
Only on the Ultra plan, and there within Meta’s 24-hour window — a tool may only react to a message promptly, after that the channel closes. On Basic and Pro your DM inbox remains entirely yours.
Can I read every reply beforehand?
Yes — that’s what draft mode is for: the AI writes the reply, you review, edit if needed and send. Many start that way and only switch to direct sending once the replies have fit for weeks. Switching is possible at any time, per account.
How is this different from Meta Business Suite’s instant replies?
The Suite’s instant replies are rules with fixed text, mainly for messages — useful as a receipt confirmation, but not an answer on substance. The comment AI writes freely from your knowledge base and addresses the content of the question. The full comparison: [Meta Business Suite alternative](meta-business-suite-alternative).

Don’t let the next question sit until tomorrow
The most honest test: fill the knowledge base, switch on draft mode and read for a week what the AI would have answered. You see every reply before it goes out — and then decide whether to hand over the sending.
