Social media South Tyrol

Social media in South Tyrol — bilingual, without your own manager

In South Tyrol, 43.9 per cent of employees work in businesses with fewer than ten people. There is no marketing department there — Instagram gets done by the owner in the evening, or it doesn’t get done at all. PostExpert takes over production: your photos become posts, and the AI answers comments in the language they were asked in.

The starting point

Why social media works differently here than in Munich

South Tyrol is neither a small German market nor a northern Italian one. Three peculiarities shape everyday Instagram work here — and guides written for the big markets miss all three.

The business is small — and the owner is the marketing lead

Micro businesses with zero to nine employees account for 43.9 per cent of jobs in the province (WIFO, Chamber of Commerce Bolzano). Whoever handles Instagram there also handles quotes, staff and incoming goods — and posts accordingly irregularly.

Two languages are the norm, not a bonus

In the 2024 language group census, 68.6 per cent declared themselves German and 27.0 per cent Italian (ASTAT). In the comments that means: the question comes in one language or the other — and an answer in the wrong one counts as half an answer.

Your audience is half neighbourhood, half guest

South Tyrol recorded 37.1 million overnight stays in 2024, almost half of them German guests (ASTAT). A business in the valley therefore speaks to regulars from the village and to guests arriving in three weeks at the same time — from one account.

None of this calls for a special approach, but it does set a requirement: the content has to keep running without daily attention, and it has to serve both languages. How a post is created, in detail.

How it works

What you do — and what the tool takes over

Set it up once; after that your work consists of two things: taking photos when they happen anyway, and approving.

01

Let it read your business

You enter your website address. PostExpert reads positioning, services and audience from it — including logo and colour. If your business has a German and an Italian site, pick the one that captures your tone better.

02

Set time zone and publish time

A fixed publishing time in your time zone — the post goes out reliably, even on the day with a full restaurant or a site visit in Merano.

03

Define your topics

Three to five pillars are enough: offers, behind the scenes, team, reference work. Topics with real products go on “own media only” — a fabricated AI visual will never appear there.

04

Collect photos

Upload several images at once, assigned straight to a topic. Whatever ends up on your phone anyway — the plate, the job site, the new stock — is the material.

05

Approve and publish

The post waits for your approval or goes out automatically. The AI answers comments from your knowledge base, in the language of the question.

The difference from a scheduling tool: you only upload the photo, not the finished post. All the building blocks: Features.

BilingualPro

The reply comes in the language the question was asked in

This is where tools built for the big German market fail in South Tyrol: they know one language. The comment AI detects whether a question was asked in German, Italian or English and replies in that language — from a knowledge base you maintain only once.

  • Reply in German, Italian or English — depending on the comment
  • One knowledge base for all languages: opening hours, offers, location, contact
  • Never invents prices or availability — if it’s not in there, it refers onward
  • Draft mode: the AI writes, you review and send
  • On Pro up to -1 automatic replies per week, uncapped on Ultra

Local

Visible to guests, present for the neighbourhood

A business in South Tyrol speaks to two audiences at once: people who know the way and guests who are looking for it. You reach both from the same account — with a location tag and a time that fits the working day here.

  • Own time zone per account — the time is right no matter where the server is
  • Location tag on the post, set when approving in the queue
  • Trend research comes preconfigured for the DACH region
  • Several businesses or locations as separate accounts from one subscription
  • A rejected location never blocks the post: it goes out without the tag

The production

This morning’s phone photo becomes a post

No boilerplate: the AI looks at your image — subject, light, details — and writes caption and hashtags in your business’s voice. Everything stays editable before publishing.

  • Caption from the actual image, in the tone read from your website
  • Hashtags matched to the subject, fresh every time
  • Retouching adjusts light and colour without changing the subject
  • Photo reels from three to six of your images, cut to royalty-free music
  • Logo and company colour optionally on every image

This little planning is enough: four pillars, four slots per week, sales at most every third post. The pillars are the decision — the posts are execution.

Honestly speaking

What PostExpert is not, for businesses in South Tyrol

So expectations are right before you test for 30 days — including the cases where a local agency is the better choice.

Not an agency, no on-site support

PostExpert is a tool, not a service provider: there is no account manager taking over your profile, no photo shoots, no strategy workshops. Anyone looking for exactly that is better served by a South Tyrolean social media agency — and should stay there.

No Ladin

The AI writes and replies in German, Italian and English. It does not handle Ladin. For businesses in the Ladin valleys that means: those comments you answer yourself.

No office in Bolzano

PostExpert is a sole proprietorship based in Innsbruck (see [imprint](impressum)) — a neighbouring region, the same Alpine area, but not a South Tyrolean provider. Support runs in writing, not over coffee.

Instagram only

Publishing happens exclusively on Instagram. No Facebook posting (a connected page only supplies statistics), no TikTok, no LinkedIn. For businesses whose audience sits elsewhere, that’s a genuine dealbreaker.

No story stickers, no links in posts

Polls, question boxes and countdowns aren’t allowed by Instagram’s official API for any tool; neither are clickable links in posts. Both are platform limits, not product gaps.

Location search depends on Meta approval

Instagram doesn’t accept a freely typed place name, only a Facebook Page with a stored address. Searching for it requires separate approval from Meta; until granted, the app reports it as not yet available.

All prices are net prices plus statutory VAT. This offer is aimed exclusively at entrepreneurs within the meaning of § 1 of the Austrian Consumer Protection Act (KSchG); contracts with consumers are excluded. A valid VAT identification number is required in order to conclude a contract.

All features in direct comparison are on the pricing page. The honest yardstick isn’t the monthly fee but the hours you currently spend in the evening — or an agency’s quote.

Frequently asked

Questions from South Tyrol

What businesses in the province ask us most often before starting.

Does this work in Italian too?

Yes. Posts can be created in German or Italian, and the comment AI replies in the language the question was asked in — German, Italian or English. You maintain the knowledge base only once. This is exactly where tools built for the German market fail: they know one language and give an Italian comment a German answer.

And Ladin?

No, the AI doesn’t handle Ladin — neither for writing nor for replying. For businesses in Val Gardena, Val Badia or Fassa that means: posts and replies in Ladin you still do yourself. We’d rather say that plainly than let you find out during the trial.

Is PostExpert a South Tyrolean agency?

No, and that’s the most important distinction on this page: PostExpert is a tool, not a service provider — a sole proprietorship based in Innsbruck (see [imprint](impressum)). It takes over producing the posts, not managing your account. Anyone looking for someone to handle strategy, photo shoots and community management should go to an agency in the province.

When is an agency the better choice instead?

If you need a strategy built from scratch, want professional photo and video production, or run several channels — Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok — an agency is the right call; PostExpert publishes on Instagram only. If your problem is instead “I have the material, but in the evening I lack the time and the words”, then that’s exactly the case this tool was built for.

I run a hotel and a restaurant — can I manage both?

Yes, as two separate accounts from one subscription: own topics, own media library, own knowledge base, own publishing time. That’s deliberate — the restaurant’s opening hours don’t belong in the hotel’s answers. Pro includes 3 accounts, Ultra 8, more from €5 per month.

How much time does this cost me per week?

The photos happen anyway — during service, on the job site, at goods-in. What remains is uploading (several images in one go) and approval, which takes one glance per post. How many of your own photos your desired frequency needs is calculated on the industry pages, for example [For hospitality](fuer-gastronomie) or [For trades](fuer-handwerker).

Does this reach German guests as well?

That’s one of the reasons Instagram works for businesses in South Tyrol: in 2024 the province counted 37.1 million overnight stays, almost half of them German guests (ASTAT). These people plan their stay weeks in advance — and while doing so they look at how a restaurant, farm or shop presents itself today. A feed whose last post is from April doesn’t answer that question.

Do I need an Instagram business account?

Yes, a professional account (business or creator) connected to a Facebook Page — Meta requires this for any publishing through the official API, regardless of the tool. Switching takes a few minutes in the app and is free.

How does invoicing work for a business in Italy?

The prices on this page are net prices for businesses; the offer is aimed at companies, and a valid VAT ID is required for invoicing. How to treat the invoice in your bookkeeping — reverse charge and the like — is best clarified briefly with your tax advisor; that’s not advice we can responsibly give you.

Is automating Instagram allowed?

Yes, as long as publishing runs through Meta’s official API — which is exactly what PostExpert does. What’s problematic is automated following, mass likes and engagement bots; PostExpert stays away from all of that. In detail: [Automating Instagram: what’s allowed](blog/instagram-automatisieren-leitfaden).

Test it with the photos already on your phone

Create a topic, upload twenty images, fill the knowledge base with your opening hours — and read for a week what lands in your approval queue, in German as well as Italian. If it doesn’t sound like your business, you’ve lost nothing.
